The Birdsall House was once an architectural crown jewel of Washington Street and a historic landmark. Located at 236 Washington Street, the Birdsall House was originally constructed in 1868. It was named after Amos Birdsall who built the home. Birdsall was a prominent local sea captain and the second president of the First National Bank of Toms River. While being maintained to preserve its historic charm, the building housed a local real estate company until 2016. On May 31, 2016, the Birdsall House caught fire and burned to the ground leaving its current charm and historic legacy to ash. Today, local township officials and community advocates are constructing a full replica of the Birdsall House.
